Situational Interview Questions

advertisement

Situational interview questions can be of two types; the first is where you are given a particular situation and asked how you would handle it.  The second type would be when you are asked to quote an example from your past experiences, to show how you have resolved a difficult situation.  In both instances, the interviewers are gauging how well you handle a difficult situation to bring about a positive outcome.

While preparing for situational interview questions, write down the job description and the responsibilities expected out of the candidate.  Questions are based on the job requirements, so make a list of the kind of situations you are likely to encounter in the particular work-scenario.

While responding to these questions, it is important to understand the situation thoroughly.  If presented with a hypothetical situation, take a moment to consider the pros and cons and analyze how best you can handle the situation.

These questions are designed to test your professional, personal and inter-personal competency skills.  Your decision making abilities and power of judgment are also analyzed.

While quoting instances from the past, make sure to explain your action, its aim and purpose, the result that was expected, and any lessons learned from that experience.  By bringing forth a positive attitude, you can prove your suitability for the job.
