Most organizations and companies look for certain qualities and abilities in their prospective employees.  Generally, the candidates are tested on their professional qualifications, abilities, skills, knowledge, interpersonal relations, adaptability and their aspirations among other things.  These aspects form the basis of typical interview questions.

Typical interview questions can be divided into two broad categories, personal and professional.  One can easily prepare a set of typical interview questions based on these categories.

Personal category can typically include questions like “Tell us a little about yourself”.  They are asked to check how suitable you would be for a job.  These act as warm-up questions too, which give the candidates a chance to talk about themselves.  Questions on strengths and weaknesses as well as personality traits and behavioral questions are all aimed at judging the temperamental suitability of the candidate for a specific job.

Questions related to profession may test the professional credibility, knowledge, technical skills, learning ability, etc.  They may also include hypothetical situations which are designed to test your ability to perform in work-related situations, your risk taking ability, planning etc.  You may be also asked questions related to professional aspirations, career goals, strengths and weakness etc.
