How to answer advertising interview questions


Advertising is a vibrant field and requires enthusiastic and creative employees and so the questions asked during an advertising interview tries to find out if the candidate has those qualities, and it is the candidate’s job to convince the interviewer that he does. There are different departments in advertising too, but while answering questions these points can be kept in mind:

  • Sell yourself: Any job interview requires you to sell your good points to the interviewer but in advertising you must be more into as this is a field where one needs to promote a product by highlighting certain characteristics. Talk about past projects, your promotional strategies, experience with clients while answering questions
  • Be creative: Advertising is all about creativity, you don’t have to overdo it, but when asked to impromptu advertise a product, instead of talking in a monotonous way about the qualities of the product, use your wit to make up a jingle or describe the product in a funny way that will get the attention of the interviewer.

Show that you are knowledgeable about the trends, facts, figures, and statistics in this field by including them in your answers.
  • Marketing strategies: Besides the creative aspect, advertising also has a marketing role which one must play depending on the post one is applying for. You can tell the interviewer about you previous accounts or clients and how you came up with an interesting approach to attract customers.
  • Ethics: A lot of ads may promote something about a product that may be exaggerated, you can tell the interviewer how you will sell the product and still maintain your ethics.
